How do I set up my Pulsenics dashboard before running my first experiment?

Add users, create facilities and test stations, check Probe status, and assign the Probe so you are ready to test

Goal
Set up your Pulsenics dashboard so you can start experiments without getting blocked later. By the end you will be able to:

  • Add users with the right permissions

  • Create Facilities and Test Stations

  • Confirm Probe status and assign the Probe to a physical location

  • (If applicable) confirm CMU and Switch visibility

Before you start

  • You can sign in to the Pulsenics dashboard.

  • You have Admin access if you need to create users (only Admins can create or delete user accounts).

1) Confirm your dashboard homepage

When you sign in, you will land on the dashboard homepage where you can view:

  • Experiments

  • Facilities

  • Recent activity (your activity and your team’s activity)

2) Add users (so your team has access)

  1. In the left sidebar, go to Users.

  2. In the top right, click Add.

  3. Enter the required user details.

  4. Choose a user type:

User types

  • Admin: can create and delete user accounts, and can do everything else.

  • Experimenter: can do everything except create or delete user accounts.

  • Viewer: read only access for analytics and results. Viewers cannot interact with the Probe or change experiment parameters.

  1. Check the user’s time zone so timestamps match expectations.

  2. Click Save.

What you should see: the new user appears in the Users list.

3) Create a Facility and Test Station

You need at least one Test Station so you can assign a Probe to a physical spot.

  1. Go to Facilities.

  2. Click Add to create a Facility (for example, “HQ” or a lab name).

  3. Create or add a Test Station under that Facility.

    • Give it a clear name (for example, “Stack B Test Bench”).

    • Add location details (lab room, bay number, etc.).

    • Optional: add notes for team context.

  4. Click Save.

What you should see: the Facility and its Test Station appear in the Facilities list, and can be edited later.

4) Do a quick Probe health check (Online status)

  1. Go to Probes.

  2. Find your Probe (you can click the serial number to open details).

  3. Check the status indicator:

Status indicators

  • Green (Online): the Probe is online and ready.

  • Yellow: the Probe is not currently connected to the Pulsenics dashboard.

  • Red: the Probe went offline during an experiment.

What to do

  • For starting your first experiment, confirm the Probe is Green (Online).

5) Assign the Probe to a Facility and Test Station

Before you can run an experiment, assign the Probe to its physical location.

  1. In Probes, click the serial number of the Probe you want.

  2. Select the correct Facility.

  3. Select the correct Test Station.

  4. Click Save.

What you should see: back in the Probes list, the Probe shows which Facility and Test Station it is assigned to.

6) If you have CMUs or a Switch (optional checks)

If your system includes CMUs or Switch hardware:

  • Check the CMUs tab to confirm CMU visibility and where they are connected.

  • Check the Switches tab if you are using Switch hardware.

You are ready

At this point you should have:

  • The right users created

  • At least one Facility and Test Station

  • A Probe that is Online

  • The Probe assigned to a Facility and Test Station
